REVIEW: Etude House AC Clinic Line (Daily Gel Lotion, Intense Red Balm Spot, Acre Cleansing Foam)

Hi there! For my first review I would like to do it on the Etude House's AC Clinic Line which includes the Gel Lotion, Red Spot Balm and Acne Foam Cleanser.

To start of, let me just tell you first about my skin condition which prompted me to buy these products. I have a combination skin type. (Normal or dry in some areas and oily in some areas.) I have hormonal pimples which means on my red days, most often the not, I get to welcome these unwanted pimples. I also get pimples at times due to lack of sleep, stress, and when my T-zone gets too oily. I used to take some hormonal pills for at least a year and it worked really well for me.  The pill cost me a lot and I was afraid of the consequences of long term use, hence I decided not to take them anymore. So now, I had to find other option to keep this nasty pimples under control and I got these products from Etude House in hopes of good results.

According to its product description from their website, it is formulated with Salicylic Acid and Hinoki Cypress. It maintains oil and moisture balance to supply trouble care and prevention. If you want to know more about the product description click here.

Packaging. Very simple. I love the green color. The box is simple and the product is in a glass bottle with a hard plastic cover. By the way, the full size comes in 150ml. In the box, there is a short description and instruction on how to use it in English text.
Expiry: When opened, it is good for 12 months. Before opening, according to my research, this one is good for about 30months after the manufacturing date. (Exact expiration date in not indicated but the manufacturing date is indicated on the product container.)

Scent. It smells like menthol, somewhat like a mild eucalyptus aroma scent. Mildly strong. Some may be bothered by the scent but it really doesn't matter to me because I kind of like it.

Color and Texture. The lotion looks milky and is watery.

I have been using this for almost 2 years now and in fact I'm already halfway done on my 2nd bottle. A bottle lasts a long time for me because I just need a few drops of it to cover my whole face and my neck. Just a thin layer of it and I'm good to go. As per experience, this product doesn't guarantee a 100% healing of pimples but it helps control it as there are still many factors to be considered. True to its description there's a great balance of moisturizing, trouble care and trouble prevention which really worked well for me. Not only does it help in dealing with pimples, it does also help with keeping my T-zone in control from being oily especially on my nose. After applying it on my face, I can feel a very slight cooling/fresh sensation on my face. Also,it feels like I am having an aroma therapy because of the mild eucalyptus scent. Another great news is it doesn't dry my skin. This really works well for my combination skin. This is the product that I never go away with everyday skincare routine. Seriously, I am die hard fan of this.

Okay, so that being said, how and when do I use this? I basically use it everyday: In the morning, after cleansing before applying make up. At night, as part of my night time skin care routine. (I will share you my night time cleansing and skin care routine for troubled skin anytime soon, including the products that I use.) As I mentioned earlier I just need a few drops, just enough to make a thin layer of it on my entire face and neck. There are times though that I don't use it on my entire face. Sometimes I only apply it only on my T-zone and on the rest of my face, I use another cream. I particularly do this when my face feels dry that I want to moisturize my face especially my cheeks.

My Rating. 5/5

Another product from the Etude House AC Clinic Line is the Intense Red Spot Balm. This is how it looks like, and as you can see, I am almost running out of it.
Packaging. Great color and is nicely packed. It comes with a free 30ml Acne Foam Cleanser and a tiny cute green spatula which I think is for sanitary purposes. It comes in a full size of 20ml in a green glass small container with a hard plastic cover. (Please refer to the next image below for the picture of the complete packaging, for your reference)

Expiry: When opened, it is good for 12 months. Before opening, according to my research, this one is good for about 30-36 months after the manufacturing date. (Exact expiration date in not indicated but the manufacturing date is indicated on the product container.)
Scent. It smells the same as the gel lotion but a little bit milder.

Color and Texture. White soft balm and doesn't feel sticky.

I have been using this for quite a long time now. I apply it after using the gel lotion. I scoop, with the use of the tiny spatula, a very small amount (similar to a teardrop size) then apply thinly to needed areas. I find it that applying a thick layer doesn't really work any better. The first time I used it, there was a little sting (not bothersome though) that disappears seconds later. You have to be aware that when using products for pimples, you are to expect it might sting a little after application, which is somewhat a sign that the product is working. Despite this, you should stop using it if skin irritation occur.

I usually use this product only at night. But I do use it in the morning if any only if I am just going to stay at home. I don't recommend using this before applying make up because on my experience on the areas I applied with the red spot balm, the make up wont look good.

Furthermore, my skin has the tendency of getting used to a particular product after long term use. It will then come to the point that the product won't be of any help anymore. Because of this, I limit using this and use only when needed. I also alternate using this with other products such as Panoxyl cream, Quick Fix Pimple Eraser and SOS Clindamycin Topical Solution. If you have the same situation as mine, then you might as well alternate it with other products too or I recommend using it only when needed and not for more than 2weeks.

My Rating. 4/5

*I didn't have the complete packaging since, I've had this in a long time and I've thrown them out already. I got this one form the Google Image Search for your reference on how the complete packaging looks like.
Based on it's product description, it says that it is formulated with Salicylic Acid. It removes acne causing germs to keep your skin clean all day. Non-Comedogenic and Dermatologist Tested.

Packaging. This one that I got is the 30ml tube which is included when you purchase the Intense Red Spot Balm. (By the way, the full size comes in a 150ml tube.

Scent. Same scent as the gel lotion but a little bit stronger.

Color and Texture. It is white and has a texture slightly similar to a facial scrub.

This cleanser for me is quite strong. I do think that it works more like a scrub rather than a foam. Not quiet gentle for me and not recommended for everyday use. After using it, my T-zone feels a little bit dry and the rest of my face feels like I have just scrubbed it. Because of this, I only use this when I'm having breakouts or use it on specific areas with pimples. Works really well in cleansing and helps prevent more break out but I feel the need to hydrate and moisturize my face every time I use it. I always make sure to use the AC Clinic gel lotion afterwards. I do think that this works well for those with oily skin and maybe somewhat a precaution for those who have dry skin.

My Rating. 3/5

In summary, these products for me are still worth it specifically the gel lotion. The red spot balm works well too. And lastly, I may not like the side effects of the facial foam but I still appreciate the pimple-fighting effects of it.

So that's about it and by the way, you can buy these products in their full size at their outlet stores in the mall or buy online at www.etudehouse.com. They offer shipping worldwide.

  1. Great post full of useful tips! My site is fairly new and I am also having a hard time getting my readers to leave comments. Analytics shows they are coming to the site but I have a feeling “nobody wants to be first”.

But I am saking myself if my laptop isn´t loading the images correctly or if it is just such a bad quality. I am very interested in the product and I think your review is quite helpfull, but I can´t see anything in the pictures. :/
